Added New Googlemap
Website Update 25.01.2012
I have now added a new Google map facility to the website which you can find at the bottom of each screen.
This may help you to find or identify locations that are mentioned in the articles that you are interested in. If you find that this addition is causing and problems in your browsing please let me know so I can rectify any errors. After testing various modules and thinking about where they would be most useful I have opted for placing it on each page of the website.
Using the map could not be easier! When your mouse pointer is over the map, the pointer will change to a Grabbing hand, hold the left mouse button down and move the mouse. You should see the map moving in the direction you wish to go. When you have arrived at the location you would like to browse, just 'Double Click' on the target and the map will zoom in to that area. Just keep double clicking until you reach the desired depth of field.
You may also use the Symbols at the left of the map to Zoom in, and Zoom out. At the top left of the map is a little golden man - for those not accustomed to this little figure, it can take you into the map and view it from a persons perspective. Just place your pointer on the Golden man and he will lean over to the right. Hold down the left mouse button and drag him over the map - at this point you will see the roads turn into blue lines. Once you have got to the place you want, leg go of the left mouse button and Voila! You will see the area as if you were standing in the road itself.
Now you can use the Arrow symbols to move up and down the road/street, and use the directional circle - top left - to alter your viewpoint as if you were turning around on the street.
All you need to do now is HAVE FUN!
Welcome to YOSP
Ye Olde Sussex Pages as it was once known.
The website has undergone a TOTAL revamp from the old site and all the old articles are available on this site in organized layouts although they may be in different areas than they were. It has taken quite some time to get everything from the old site to this new one and those that have been coming here for years, I thank you for your patience.
I have some Great ideas to display the extensive information I have in my possession that should keep you entertained and spellbound for hours on end and the work on this can now begin in earnest. Over Xmas I shall get back to looking at new material to place on the website and new ways to display it to a fitting end and once in the New Year I can start with posting new articles.
Athena B on Brighton Beach
The Athena B Coastal Vessel Beached at Brighton.
I remember this well and so will many other citizens and visitors at Brighton that time back in January 1980.
Built in 1968 and at the time of the beaching she was registered under the Greek Flag. After leaving the Azores in December 1979 with a cargo of Pumice her port-of-call was to be Shoreham-by-sea. On reaching the Sussex coast at Shoreham there were strong winds at force 7-8 and it was too dangerous to enter the harbour at that point and soon after the vessel suffered a power loss to her engines and began to drift.
